Chocolate & Orange Chia Pudding

Chia is a magical little seed: a nutritional powerhouse; bursting with omega-3 fatty acids; vitamins, antioxidants, fibre, calcium and protein; and ticks all of the boxes for such a tiny, ancient seed! They are easily absorbed by the body and make an ideal protein source to add to smoothies or to have as a breakfast alternative or indeed a treat such as this. Chia seeds are now widely available in supermarkets, health-food stores and online. They are not cheap but you don’t need to use a lot because they swell up when soaked in any liquid – making them really filling. They are absolutely worth buying and introducing to your diet where you can.

I started making homemade raw chocolate last year and decided to try using raw cacao powder with chia seeds. Well, it was a little bit of magic to me and if ever I feel like a dessert or a treat (no, not at breakfast!), then this is what I turn to.

Tip: why not play around with different flavours and fruits – it’s literally a guilt-free, health-promoting treat!


2 tbsp chia seeds
Juice and grated zest of 2 oranges
100ml hazelnut milk (or milk of choice)
½ tsp vanilla powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp coconut crystals
2 tbsp raw cacao powder


1. Pour the chia seeds into a container with a lid (I use an old jam jar), then pour the orange juice and hazelnut milk (or milk of choice) over and stir.
2. Add the vanilla, cinnamon and coconut crystals. Cover with a lid, shake well and leave for 30 minutes.
3. Spoon the mixture into serving glasses, bowls or cups, then grate the orange zest over the top and finish with a sprinkling of cacao powder. Then enjoy this guilt-free, healthy treat.
