A good breakfast to look forward to doesn’t half make tumbling out of bed on a crisp, cold morning a lot easier.

Oats are an almost infinitely versatile ingredient. Minimally processed, readily available in shops, cost-effective, and a source of nourishing complex carbohydrates. The key to making them into a really satisfying and nutritious breakfast is to include extra protein. Nuts, seeds, or nut butters tend to be the tastiest combination. I’ll usually add a portion of fresh fruit too, for an extra boost of essential vitamins and beneficial phytonutrients.

If you can’t have certain nuts, then just substitute them for another nut or nut butter, or use seeds instead.
